Jeremiah W. Sanborn started at the New Hampshire College of Agriculture and the Mechanic ARts in 1876 as farm superintendent. He continued in that postiton until 1883 when he left for a job in Missouri. The College moved from Hanover, NH to Durham, NH in 1893 and became the University of New Hampshire in 1923. In 1861, the United States federal government approved the Morrill Act which set aside land in each state for the founding of public higher education.
